Now I’m not talking about the magic you see on television; some Hollywood dream of beautiful young women beautifully dressed for the occasion creating by the power of three (although that too is part of magic).

The magic I’m talking about is very simple; it’s the magic you do already – the magic you have in your own hands.

Magic in your hands

Now you have all felt the power in your own hands – and you know that its there – what are you going to do with it? Because you can, if you wish, direct the power that you know that you can call, through your will.

You can use this power for healing. Reiki is one of the ways to use the knowledge of how to use the magic power of your hands.

Another way is to create furniture, or to sculpt, or to paint. Any artist will tell you that to create the beauty, they go inside and let the power out through their hands. Some artists have told me that they don’t know what they are creating, until they see it. Some writers don’t know what is going to appear on the page, until they read the finished product. True!

But that also is magic. Magic at work, in your daily life.

All magic is – is taking the energy from one place, and using that energy in another place – by your will.

Thoughts have power

If you can think it, you can do it. Meditation is one tool to get in touch with your subconscious, to calm and still the constant chatter of your thoughts to get in touch with your authentic self. If meditation isn't your choice in this lifetime, you could try making a Creation Book - just doodle and scrapbook and daydream on the blank pages of your book, until you "see" what it is you want to create. Your world is like your Creation Book; you are free to write whatever you please, to create whatever you please, or even to tear the pages of your book. After all, it's your book ...

Words have power

Another use of magic is through the voice. All these lovely new age affirmations that work so well for us all are just a restatement for today’s world of the old knowledge …. If you can think it, and you can state it, you can do it.

By crafting an appropriate affirmation for ourselves, we are programming our head and our heart to do our will, to create what we want, right here, right now.

Working in The Now

Talking about right here, right now, people who work magic use a chant to remind themselves that magic is always worked:

At a time that is not a time
On a day that is not a day
In a place that is not a place

Or, in other words, between the worlds where both time and space are only human creations. So we go completely into the Now, with no ties to the past or to the future, to work magic. This means you can work magic in the middle of a busy supermarket, wearing a t-shirt and jeans, if that is your need and your will at that time and in that place.

But it is also true that when you decide to row a boat, it is easier to row in the direction of the current rather than against the flow. So if you time your trip to row upstream with the incoming tide, then to return home downstream with the outgoing tide, you don’t have to row as hard or to think as much to accomplish your task.

Magic is made easier if you use the natural ebb and flow of the Earth’s energy in your ritual, and the Moon, of course, directly affects our Earth. The highest tides are always at the Full and at the Dark of the Moon, or when the Moon and the Sun are in a direct line.

Working With The Moon

Throughout history, most people knew that the Moon’s influence in our lives helped weave our fate and fortune. Now, of course, scientists have conclusively proved to themselves that the Moon’s tides do not affect anything at all.

So you can choose to believe, or not to believe…..

But if you choose to try working with the Moon and choose work that fits with the Moon’s cycles, than your work would be enhanced by the Moon’s power. Because you are working with, rather than against, the natural flow of the Earth and her satellite.

As well as a daily ebb and flow of the tides, the Moon’s cycles also work with a monthly ebb and flow, as the Moon grows towards the Full Moon and wanes towards the Dark Moon:

If we start with the Full Moon – and directly opposite – in around 14 days or a fortnight, is the Dark Moon. About 2 days after a Dark Moon is the New Moon. A Blue Moon occurs when there are two Full Moons in one calendar month. The time between the Full Moon and the Dark Moon is the Waning Moon, and the time between the Dark Moon, or rather New Moon, and the Full Moon, is the Waxing Moon. When the moon is growing, or waxing, do work for growth or increase. When the moon is decreasing, or waning, do work to retard growth or for decrease.
