These are old beliefs from Celtic lands the way I choose to tell them today………
Did you know that bees were originally pure white?
A long, long time ago, in the Garden of Eden, all bees were white. Then Eve decided to take the path of self-knowledge and Adam followed her, and of all the animals the bees chose to follow Adam and Eve and fall from Paradise with their humans. They kept their furry coats and they changed from angel white to brown and black, but bees followed their humans so they could keep the sacred duty of making wax for lights so mortals could light their dark night and continue to worship. They also make honey to remind us of the sweetness of life and of good health.
Did you also know that honey itself is magical? It contains exactly the right mix of vitamins and minerals in exactly the right proportions that human bodies need to maintain optimum health.
An old wives tale says that even bee strings are good because they will ease rheumatism!
Bees hum the praises of the good life all day, every day, as they go about their work. An old Celtic belief is that bees in their hive hum the 100th psalm at midnight on the longest winter’s night, to welcome the birth of the Divine Child.
It is unlucky to kill a bee because you could be killing an angel unawares.
Bees are symbols of purity, and it was said that they would attack and sting a person who curses or hurts the innocent, because they know this is but a short step to evil-doing and bees hate evil-doers. However, the pure of heart are said to be able to walk through a swarm of bees without harm.
If you buy a hive, you should pay with gold because it is the purest metal and such a purchase price will honour the bees, who may then accept you. The hive will not thrive if there is anger, or spite, or ill feeling in a household. However, if a bees choose your garden to build a home it means your home is blessed, for the Nature Goddess has chosen you to shelter her little Guardians of The Way.
And if you make the time to honour the hive by telling the bees all your joys and sorrows, in fact everything that happens in your home and family, your life and the life of your family will be blessed by the bees.
If a bee flies into your house, it is a sign of good luck coming – unless of course you chase the good luck away by chasing the bee outside. The bee must make its own choice as to when to leave.
A bumble bee on board ship is a very lucky omen and if a honey bee sits on your hand, she is telling you that money is coming your way. If she sits on your head, this means that you will rise in the world to greatness.
A bee that flies around a sleeping child is a good fairy, or angel, bringing the child the promise of happiness, wealth and a pure heart.
If you dream of bees, expect that good things will happen for you; either a better job, or more money, or the gift of a talent or knowledge of a craft for the bee is the symbol of a royal succession, of just rewards, of achievement and success.
Bright blessings
