WORKING WITH MUDRAS
    gassho: hands prayer position

Mudras are a series of finger, hand and body gestures that communicate an idea to the Universe without using words. If you have seen the graceful dances of South East Asia that look like a series of stylised poses, you have seen mudras in action.

If you think of the Universe as being a magnificent and beneficent entity who just doesn't comprehend the spoken language of humans, using a non-verbal communication of body, hand and finger postures makes a lot of sense.

Just as our verbal language sends a constant series of signals to our brain and body, so our non-verbal language of gestures communicates just as powerfully with our head and heart. So when we use a mudra, we are communicating with ourselves as well as with the Universe.

Mudras are like a graceful dance with the energy of the Universe. As you practice your Reiki and become comfortable with the energy, you will also find that you become more sensitive to how you interact with the energy of the Universe.

The gassho is a mudra that is used in Reiki to call energy easily. The word gassho literally means to place the two palms together. This mudra asks send the blessing here or send the power here. Mikao Usui recommended using gassho while saying the Reiki principles as a part of his spiritual development technique, every morning and night and at any time during the day when they are needful.

With practice, you may use gassho whenever and wherever you wish to call energy.
