In our Western society, this is the hardest of all the principles to follow.
It’s hard to work honestly when we realize that our society only appears to admire honesty in young children or simpleminded adults. Often honesty is equated with stupidity, or even a lack of entrepreneurial skills. And as workers in an increasingly unfair world, it is very, very difficult to continue to work honestly when we can see dishonesty apparently rewarded at all levels of our society and in our own workplaces.
Our Western world has polarized our society into a very few have’s and a vast majority of have not’s. The have not’s who wish to please and appease the have’s often turn to politics as a quick ladder to join the have’s. The result is that workers at all levels in our society end up with draconian industrial relations laws, ridiculous working hours, and workplaces that, instead of being a safe place to work, are instead a breeding ground for bullying and harassment.
It is no surprise when workers fight back in one of the simplest ways possible, by cheating the have's of time, or materials, or even energy. Yet the sad fact remains that all we are doing is cheating ourselves.
To work honestly does not mean setting some impossible standard; it means doing the best that you can, in every situation. It means being honest, in every situation.
Always doing your best is the best anyone can ever expect of you - including you! When you are honestly doing the best that you can, you’ll know because you can feel it. Everything will start running smoothly for you.
When you choose to do your work honestly, you could be amazed at the tremendous effects this principle can have on your life.
It doesn’t matter if you work for yourself or for someone else, the Universe truly does reward honesty in every respect. You do get back what you give. Honestly!
